Thirty years ago — 1991

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bradigan of Forestville recently hosted a party in honor of their son, Kyle Bradigan, who was named Rookie of the Year at the Stateline and Eriez Speedways. Kyle drove a Lumina in the Limited Late class recently at the two dirt tracks.

Forty years ago — 1981

Unless private funding sources are found to refurbish and maintain the former Sacred Heart Church Bell Tower in Dunkirk, there appears to be little doubt that the structure will be razed, according to the Dunkirk Urban Renewal Agency, which is the owner of the tower. The 90-foot bell tower is all that remains of a church-school-rectory complex near the city’s Main Street that was torn down during the city’s urban renewal program. There has been considerable sentiment expressed to save the tower as a city landmark.

Fifty years ago — 1971

A Silver Creek village patrolman, John Kohler, has been appointed town of Hanover police chief by the town board.
