Retrospective

Thirty years ago — 1991

Student of the Week is Paul Holzerland, a senior at Dunkirk High School and the son of Arthur “Skip” and Patsy Holzerland. He is a member of the Computer Club, Boys “D” Club and Key Club. He also serves as a youth representative on the parish council at St. Joseph’s Church in Fredonia. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, Paul had the opportunity to work in the dining hall at the Bills’ training camp at Fredonia State last summer. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in the allied health field.

Forty years ago — 1981

Work has been completed on the new Portland town dog shelter, which is located near the town highway building off Route 20. Nick Rizzo is the town’s dog control officer.

Fifty years ago — 1971

The new Fowler’s Chocolate Shoppe at the D & F Plaza opened Nov. 11. Operating the store are George and Jane Fowler of Lily Dale.
