Thirty years ago — 1991

Honored recently by Region 22 for their outstanding contributions to Catholic education in the Diocese of Buffalo for the year1990-91 were Jane Ellman of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church; Joan Maxwell of St. Joseph Parish; Leonard Catalano of Holy Trinity; Robert Ducato of St. James in Westfield; Carolyn Ludwig of St. Anthony’s; and Bonnie L. Long of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Silver Creek.

Forty years ago — 1981

Attempting to get her name in the Guinness Book of World Records and raise money for the American Cancer Society, 19-yearold Lisa A. D’Amato has been in the shower for 73 hours. The daughter of U.S. Sen. and Mrs. Alphonse M. D’Amato and a sophomore at Binghamton State University College, Lisa is trying for a record 112-hour shower. Her efforts to date have raised $700 in pledges to the Cancer Society.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Liberty National Bank and Trust Co. of Buffalo has confirmed its intent to construct a new bank building at Central Avenue and West Fourth Street in the Dunkirk urban renewal site.
