Thirty years ago — 1991
Student of the Week is Kimberly Ann Lucas, daughter of Peter and Sharon Lucas of 29 Hanover St., Silver Creek. A senior at Silver Creek High School, she is ranked number two in her class of 70 and is captain of the volleyball and softball teams. Kimberly was selected to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference. She also served as sophomore class president. Kimberly is planning a career in the field of medicine.
Forty years ago — 1981
Gerald “Jay” Hollander of West Lake Road, Brocton served as honorary chairman of the 115th annual holiday ball sponsored by Hose Co. No. 1 of Dunkirk. The ball was held Nov. 27 in Philip Murray Union Hall featuring two bands: The Modern Men, which has been playing for area dances for the past 25 years; and Mary Zimmerman and Friend (Scott Sweeney), both music majors at Fredonia State University College. A company member since 1927, Mr. Hollander is active in both the fire department and the drum corps.
Fifty years ago — 1971
The proposed McDonald’s Restaurant in Fredonia will not be constructed until next spring, company officials reported at a Fredonia Planning Board meeting. Inclement weather has caused the delay.
