Thirty years ago — 1992

Student of the Week is Sheila Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Richmond of Route 83, Forestville. She is a senior at Forestville Central School, where she serves as class treasurer. A former class president, Sheila is a member of the National Honor Society. She also attends LoGuidice Vo-Tech Center, where she is studying computerized information technology.

Forty years ago — 1982

The end of 1981 concluded a 22-year career for Warren Stearns as highway superintendent for the town of Villenova. Stearns was first elected to the post in 1959 when he was 28 years old. At the time, he was believed to be the youngest person ever elected as a town highway superintendent in Chautauqua County. Although he is a Democrat in a predominantly Republican township, Stearns was re-elected to 10 consecutive two-year terms as highway chief. Last November, however, he lost the election by six votes to his Republican opponent, Dallas Zahm.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Delmar Brinkman has been appointed councilman to fill the unexpired term created by the resignation of Frederick Seegert, after his election as town of Hanover supervisor.
