Thirty years ago — 1992

The Outstanding Citizen Program, one of eight Education First Programs sponsored by Hills Department Store, has been implemented in over 410 elementary schools to date. A list of Outstanding Citizens at Forestville Elementary School chosen for December includes Julia Garwol, Danny Gornikiewicz, Maybeth Rivera, Michele Murray, Kristopher Wick, Dustin Arnold and David Murphy.

Forty years ago — 1982

Margaret Larson, 32 Curtis Place, Fredonia showed a lot of perseverance in getting to work in Dunkirk this morning as she used her cross country skis to negotiate the length of Central Avenue after a blizzard brought the area to a standstill. She works at the county’s social services offices at 335 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The offices were open until 3:30 this afternoon.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Mary E. Tuning, a junior at Fredonia High School, will leave soon for a year in New Zealand, representing the Fredonia Chapter of the American Field Service.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Tuning of 4792 West Main Road, Fredonia.
