Thirty years ago — 1992

Graf Realty Corp. of Dunkirk is in the process of purchasing the former Holy Cross Seminary property on Route 5 in the town of Dunkirk for a residential development project. Although no final decisions have yet been made, a spokesman for the company said preliminary plans call for the creation of 23 lakefront building lots and 17 off-lake lots in the first phase of the project. Other parts of the 55.4-acre parcel of property would be developed in future phases.

Forty years ago — 1982

A People in Profile feature on Arthur W. “Art” Green of 22 W. Fifth St., Dunkirk reveals that he was employed for 30 years as a hot saw operator at the Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Lackawanna. What makes his steel plant career there so unique is that during those many years of work, Mr. Green hitchhiked the entire distance of his journey. To top it off, Mr. Green proudly reports, “I was never late for one day’s work!”

Fifty years ago — 1972

The Fredonia Co-Op, located at 53 West Main St., Fredonia has opened on a $4,400 allocation from the Student Government Association (SGA) at Fredonia State University College. The store is manned by about 40 volunteers working in two-hour shifts.
