Thirty years ago — 1992

Dunkirk’s former School 7 on Lake Shore Drive East has been placed on the state register of historical places. State spokesperson Nancy Todd explained some of the reasons the school was chosen. “In a nutshell, the architecture is a significant example of the early 20th century architecture and the way school was taught,” she said. “For example, 19th century schools did not have kindergartens and they seldom had large gymnasiums and auditoriums.”

Forty years ago — 1982

Dunkirk High School senior Timothy Monahan was recently named the Chautauqua County VFW “Voice of Democracy” contest winner. His original script entitled, “Building America Together” was judged recently in Jamestown. He represented the John T. Murray VFW Post 1017 at the local contest.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The Fredonia Chamber of Commerce honored the Fredonia Seed Company and its 71-year history at its annual banquet held at the Holiday Inn.
