Thirty years ago — 1992

Two recent fires heavily damaged Webb’s All Season Resort near Mayville, with an unofficial estimate of damages in excess of $500,000. The restaurant, bar and bowling alley were gutted with the first fire likely resulting from carelessly discarded cigarette butts. Cause of the second fire is believed to have been an electrical fault. Owner James Webb said no decision about rebuilding has been made.

Forty years ago — 1982

Hector Bauza has been named postmaster for the Portland Post Office, replacing Allen Cranston, who retired in December. A postal employee for 14 years, Mr. Bauza started his career in the Silver Creek Post Office as a clerk-carrier. More recently, he served as an officer-in-charge at the Farnham Post Office. He resides in Forestville with his wife and two daughters.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Dr. William A. Kutner of Central Avenue, Dunkirk has returned from Dallas, Texas, where he participated in a seminar and Congress of Research conducted by the Parker Chiropractic Research Foundation.
