The Chautauqua County Volunteer Firemen’s Gala Days in Stockton will not be held anymore. For most of the past 50 years, the third weekend in July was carefully circled on calendars for this event. The Chautauqua County Volunteer Firemen’s Fraternity, which operated the event, said the decision not to hold another Gala Days was based primarily on financial considerations. Attendance had dropped significantly since the county fair’s date moved to July, almost in direct conflict with the Gala Days. It was reported that the event had to make $10,000 to cover all the costs before any profit could be made.
