Thirty years ago — 1992
Student of the Week is Barkley J. Wise, son of James and Ann Wise of Bliss Street, Westfield. A senior at Westfield Academy and Central School, he has been very active in the sports program, having been named to the All-Star Soccer Team, in addition to playing basketball, baseball and tennis. Barkley was the recipient of the White Block Letter for baseball and has won the Coach’s award for soccer the past two years. He plans to attend Fredonia State University College.
Forty years ago — 1982
Specifications for a new car for Chautauqua County Executive Joseph Gerace include some $2,000 worth of luxury options, including air conditioning. Thecar itself is near the top of the line. Two auto dealers in the county who have entered bids said they were “outraged” by the proposal to spend the extra money for the luxury options. Gerace said he had no knowledge of what the Department of Public Works had come up with as far as specifications went.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Cable television in Dunkirk is expected to be in operation in August, it was reported during a meeting between city officials and representatives of utility companies and Harbor Vue Cable TV.
