Thirty years ago — 1992
If all the necessary approvals can be obtained, the Dunkirk-Fredonia area may have a new Kmart store by early next year. The development would occupy 11 acres of the 18-acre site at the southwest corner of Route 60 and Vineyard Drive with the remaining seven acres divided into two outlets for future development.
Forty years ago — 1982
Dr. John Caruso, the 1960 Dunkirk High School graduate who competed in four sports, has found nothing but success in Erie as majority owner of the Erie Blades pro hockey team. The Blades play their home games at the Erie County Field House which is just off Interstate 90 at the Parade Street exit. Dr. Caruso began his practice as an osteopathic physician in 1969 and served as team physician to the Blades for two years.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Kung-Fu, the Chinese art of self-defense, is once again being taught in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area. Thomas Ronan and Gary Calvin are the instructors at the new school located at 34 West Main St., Fredonia.
