Thirty years ago — 1992
As the plant workforce looked on, Alumax General Manager Wayne Martin got a special haircut from Carol Sack that left him with the word “safety” spelled out on the back of his head. It’s all part of a campaign to promote plant safety. If there are no accidents in the plant for one year, Mr. Martin has promised to have all his hair shaved off.
Forty years ago — 1982
Former OBSERVER employee Dennis deJonghe, designer and craftsman of “deJonghe Original Jewelry” at 10 Caroline St., Saratoga Springs, NY was awarded “Best of Show” at the Eighth Region Craft Show held at the Schenectady Museum for his sterling and 14 karat brooch, which was one of four jewelry items entered by deJohnghe and accepted by the jurors.

A pledge campaign by members of the Silver Creek Teachers Association has been initiated to help support the Silver Creek Emergency Squad in its annual fundraising drive. Mrs. James Reynolds was named chairman
