Thirty years ago — 1992
When 140 tall ships from all over the world parade through New York Harbor on July 4 to mark the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage of discovery, the Chautauqua County-built Sea Lion will likely be among them. The Chautauqua Lake Historic Vessels Co. has made a deal with a group of Buffalo men to bring the 16th Century replica English merchantman from Chautauqua Lake to Lake Erie. County Executive Andrew Goodell said he will provide a Chautauqua County flag to fly from the Sea Lion during the parade.
Forty years ago — 1982
Brenda Howard, 17, of Dye Road, Forestville has been named Student of the Week at Forestville Central School where she is a senior. Brenda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Howard. She is a member of the volleyball and basketball teams, Varsity Club and the yearbook staff. Brenda plans to attend JCC for secretarial studies.
Fifty years ago — 1972
At the reorganizational meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board, Mayor James DeJohn introduced newly-elected trustee Melvin Ohl and welcomed back trustee Marion Lanzalaco, who was re-elected in the March elections.
