Thirty years ago — 1992

The AL-Tech Specialty Steel Corp. Maintenance Department held a retirement party at the Kosciuszko Club for four retirees. They are: Norman Odebralski, 30 years, pipefitter; Martin Nalepa, 41 years, and Ralph Anderson, 33 years, Electrical Department; and Leon Wojcinski, 19 years, Machine Shop.

Forty years ago — 1982

The possibility that Chautauqua County might consider its own north county headquarters in downtown Dunkirk rather than rent or buy any of several buildings now on the market has resurfaced as the county legislature tabled action on purchase of the YMCA building on the Dunkirk/Fredonia line. Legislator Charles Porpiglia (DDunkirk) believes that erecting a new building on any one of several vacant parcels of land in the downtown area would answer some of the objections to the YMCA site and would address the concerns of City Council and others about generating more downtown traffic.

Fifty years ago — 1972

A proposed day care center for persons with emotional or mental problems was described at a meeting of the board of directors of the Neighborhood Family Center in Dunkirk. The proposed center would be located in Dunkirk and serve the northern half of the county.
