Thirty years ago — 1992

Michael A. Miga, son of Nancy Jaggie of Portland and Michael Miga of Dunkirk, received an “outstanding student” award at Alfred State Agricultural and Technical College’s Honors Convocation. The award from the Mechanical Engineering Technology Department cites Mr. Miga as the outstanding student in the design and drafting technology curriculum.

Forty years ago — 1982

A time capsule will be buried in the cornerstone of the First United Church in Silver Creek as part of the Sunday service. The Rev. Edward Halldorson and sextoRalph Buth found the original cornerstone, which contained coins from the 1800s and a list of the names of the officers and members of the church. The original items will be buried again with coins from 1982, a list of church members and a tile commemorating the church’s 150th anniversary along with copy of the addendum to the history of the First United Church, 1831-1981.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Dunkirk city officials met informally at City Hall to discuss a proposal to ban alcoholic beverages from city parks, including picnic sites at Point Gratiot and Wright Park.
