Thirty years ago — 1992
Two local men, Larry Lundin and Vinny Polowy, are putting together a 30-minute musical variety show that will be shown once a week over Dunkirk’s Public Access Channel 12. Called “Open Mic,” the program will feature music and interviews with local bands and musicians. Mic is short for microphone.
Forty years ago — 1982
After more than a year of research and testing, Phyllis Arcoraci and Nancy Knight of Fredonia are just about ready to launch a full-scale Casual Furniture business. Friends as well as co-workers in the Franklin Realty Co. owned by Mrs. Arcoraci, the two had a dream — then worked to make that dream come true in spite of the current economy. Currently, the furniture makers are completing an order from a Dunkirk lakefront restaurant.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Girls, who have sometimes substituted unofficially for their brothers, are now eligible in New York State to hold their own daily and Sunday paper routes. Gov. Rockefeller has signed into law legislation permitting girls to serve as newspaper carriers.
