Thrity years ago — 1992

At the Dunkirk Teachers Association annual spring banquet, Donald Rozumalski was honored as this year’s recipient of the William T. Colman Award ($7,000). This award was established in 1974 and is presented to a retired teacher who has worked at least 10 years in the Dunkirk School District. Rozumalski taught for 32 years as a physical education teacher at the high school, middle school and School 3, and coached virtually every sport.

Forty years ago — 1982

A Dunkirk native, Joseph C. Gatto was recently ordained a deacon in the Roman Catholic Church by Terence Cardinal Cooke of New York City at the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City, Rome, Italy. The son of Joseph Gatto of Deer Street and Dorothy Cannon, also of Dunkirk, the Rev. Mr. Gatto is one of 37 men from throughout the U.S. who has been studying at North American College in Rome for the past three years.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Anna DeJesus has been named queen of the Spanish Community-In-Action in Dunkirk. Her selection was made at a dance held at the Philip Murray Union Hall with over 250 people attending. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julio DeJesus, 213 Leopard St., Dunkirk.
