Thirty years ago — 1992

A mortgage-burning ceremony was held this week in front of the United Way office, 626 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The ceremony was the final step of a capital drive which started in 1990 in an effort to retire the mortgage and establish a capital fund to maintain the building. Tops Market owner Jerry Trindel made the first donation and grants were received from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and the Gebbie Foundation.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency has approved a $150,000 loan to Norman Truck Lines of Buffalo, which wants to acquire the Petri Baking Co. of Dunkirk and Silver Creek. The company hopes to add 41 people to the Petri workforce over the next two years. Richard Petri of Silver Creek will remain as president of the firm.
