Thirty years ago — 1992

Former area resident Charles Parlato, a longtime trumpet player with the band of the late Lawrence Welk, recently returned to the area for several days to visit relatives and friends. One stop included the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph LoGuidice, 264 Temple St., Fredonia. Charles began playing with the Welk band in 1961 and was a member of the group for well over 20 years.

Forty years ago — 1982

Democratic Comptroller designee Raymond F. Gallagher brought his campaign for that office to Chautauqua County today with campaign stops in Dunkirk and Jamestown. A former state senator and now chairman of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, Gallagher met with local and county officials at the Top of the Mark Restaurant in Dunkirk.

Fifty years ago — 1972

For the eighth consecutive year, the U.S. Naval Reserve Small Surface Division 3-20 (S) in Dunkirk has won the award as the top unit of its type in the state.
