Thirty years ago — 1993

Bridget Henderson showed a knack for basketball as early as the fifth grade. That’s when the Dunkirk native won a hoop shot contest sponsored by the local Elks Club. The rest is history. Today, Bridget is a sophomore at St. John Fisher College in suburban Rochester, where she plays guard for one of the country’s most successful basketball programs. She credits her high school coach, Bob Uszacki, for providing the inspiration.

Forty years ago — 1983

Getting people back to work. That will be the number one priority of Assemblyman William Parment in his new job of representing the state’s 150th Assembly District in Albany. At his swearing-in ceremony on New Year’s Day in the court chamber at Dunkirk City Hall, Mr. Parment said that reducing unemployment across the state has to be not only his goal, but also that of every state and local elected official across the state.

Fifty years ago — 1973

It was announced today that Silver Creek native and graduate of Fredonia State University College, Dr. James H. Young, has been named acting vice president for administration at Buffalo State University College.
