The 11 contestants vying this year for the title of Miss Festival of Grapes are: Joy Van Slyke, Jessica Wojcinski, J’Neene Ortolano, Jena Gullo, Denelle Newcomb, Mirella Del Sorbo, Misty Sullivan, Megan Muck, Cathryn White, Rebecca Castricone and Jennifer Hutchinson.

Forty years ago — 1983

Thomas Kolassa, an alumnus of Fredonia High School, is enrolled in the Ohio University Raabe College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Services. His parents are Mrs. Alan Mazany and Thomas Kolassa, both of Fredonia.

Fifty years ago — 1973

The City Street Department today began digging around the wooden Indian on the corner of Park and West Fifth streets that migratory artist Peter Toth carved from a dead elm stump this summer and donated to the city of Dunkirk. The only one of its kind in this state, the statue will be placed permanently on the lawn of the municipal filtration plant on Lake Shore Drive West.
