Thirty years ago — 1993
Up to 17 jobs could be lost in the city of Dunkirk under a plan by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. to consolidate its eight regional telephone customer service centers into one large facility somewhere in the state. NiMo spokesman Stephen Brady said that a decision on the facility is not expected until next month. And, while Dunkirk is in the running as a possible site, there is no indication that the city is likely to be chosen. At present, the Dunkirk NiMo office on East Fourth Street employs 27 people, with plans to retain 10 customer service positions locally and keeping the office itself open.
Forty years ago — 1983
Louise Sorge of Silver Creek was one of severalWestern New York women who met recently with Matilda Cuomo, wife of Gov. Mario Cuomo, and toured the Governor’s Office and the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Following lunch in the Executive Mansion, Mrs. Cuomo accompanied the group on a tour of the home. Built in 1857, it has been the home of state governors since 1875.

Mark Zanghi of Portland and Greg Gerrity , sophomores at Fredonia State University College, were elected to the Student Association’s representative assembly at the college.
