Thirty years ago — 1993

Roden and Lori Karlson were the male and female winners of the Salvation Army Turkey Trot held in Dunkirk. Roden was timed in 17:34 and Karlson, of Forestville, in 21:17 for five kilometers. Major James Sproul of the Salvation Army presented the trophies. Seventy-four runners took part in the annual race.

Forty years ago — 1983

Suzanne Chamberlain, WGRZ-TV general assignment reporter, will be the master of ceremonies for the Dunkirk- Fredonia Junior Miss Pageant, sponsored by the Dunkirk JayNcees. A total of 11 Dunkirk and Fredonia high school seniors will participate in the pageant. Chamberlain joined the staff at WGRZ-TV in February 1982.

Fifty years ago — 1973

After 25 heartbreaking years, Steve Krystofik of 260 Lincoln Ave., Dunkirk finally bagged his first deer — a 168-pound doe. Mr. Krystofik has been going out every season since he was 17 years old.
