Thirty years ago — 1994

In its annual report it was noted that the Dunkirk Historical Society has a large number of Dunkirk and Fredonia city and village directories in its collection — the earliest dating to 1887 and many of them the only known copies in existence. Presently, the oldest of these books (22 volumes) are being microfilmed to preserve their contents. It also was reported that more than 1,200 adults and children from throughout the United States, Canada, Germany and Albania visited the museum during 1993.

Forty years ago — 1984

Cattaraugus Community Action Inc. of Salamanca recently held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the newest Vietnam Veterans Center in Dunkirk. The center, located at 318 Central Ave., is the fifth of its kind. Under the theme of “Together then … Together now,” the Center seeks to help Vietnam and Vietnam Era veterans through counseling and other programs.

Fifty years ago — 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Crowell of Bartlett Road, South Dayton visited with the former pastor of the Forestville Wesleyan Church, the Rev. and Mrs. Robert Shannon and daughter Kristin, on a recent trip to Florida.
