However, the OBSERVER has learned it could cost the county upwards of $1 million to acquire and adapt the building. Thirty years ago — 1994 Parishioners of St. Patrick’s Church on Central Avenue in Brocton marked the 50th anniversary of the church at that location last month. The church was constructed in June 1944 after the original building on Pullman Street was lost to a fire in 1943. Bishop Edward Head took part in the dedication and blessing of the new stained-glass entrance window which was donated in memory of Milo Parisio and designed by Anthony Riforgiat. The Rev. Robert G. Thirty years ago — 1994 Every Sunday afternoon at the Ed Egan Little League Complex on Clinton Avenue in Fredonia, boys and girls ages 7 to 21 who are physically challenged play ball in the Challenger League. The kids have fun and no score is kept. Begun locally in 1991 by Ben Cerrie, the Little League district administrator for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, the Challenger League welcomes any handicapped child from the area to join in the games. Thirty years ago — 1994 More than 100 friends, community members, colleagues and relatives attended a dinner- dance honoring Judge Raul Figueroa, a former Dunkirk resident. The event was held at the Kosciuszko Club in Dunkirk and was hosted by Hispanics Organized for Progress and Education (HOPE). Currently, Judge Figueroa is the only city court judge in the state to serve on the State Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics. Thirty years ago — 1994 The Chautauqua County Legislature recently approved a resolution “encouraging the use of protective bicycle helmets” after refusing to make such use mandatory for all ages. State law requires that children under 14 wear the headgear. A bicycle helmet education program will be instituted with the expectation that local fraternal, business and civic organizations will sponsor such programs and supply helmets for riders over the age of 14 if they are unable to buy their own. Lyczkowski, a chemical engineer in the Energy Systems Division of Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Ill., has been named a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Lyczkowski has authored 47 technical publications and holds two patents. A 1959 Dunkirk High School graduate, he is the son of Joanne Lyczkowski of Dunkirk and the late Walter Lyczkowski.
