Thirty years ago — 1992 JoAnne Powell, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Josef M. Powell of Fredonia, will be representing the Fredonia Rotary Club and District 7090 as an exchange student to Brazil. A 1992 Fredonia High School graduate, JoAnne will study at the local high school as well as at the University of Brazil in Brasilia. Thirty years ago — 1992 Former Dunkirk resident Sophie Hodorowicz Knab, a 1966 graduate of Dunkirk High School and currently living on Grand Island, has written a book entitled “Polish Customs, Traditions and Folklore.” Published by Hippocrene Books, it will be available at bookstores after Oct. 15. Thirty years ago — 1992 The Vietnam “Moving Wall” will be on display this summer at the Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum, 1 Lighthouse Point Drive, until Aug. 25. The wall is a half-scale replica of the original in Washington, D.C., and contains all the names of the men and women of the Vietnam War who were killed or are missing. There is no fee to visit the wall which may be viewed 24 hours a day. Thrity years ago — 1992 After 23 years of ownership, the Federal National of State College in Pennsylvania has sold the Days Inn on Bennett Road to Fredonia Motel Inc., a family-run corporation. The four owners in the Fredonia Motel Inc. bought the Days Inn July 2. Restaurant manager Satish Patel is leasing the new restaurant “Kasi” and lounge.
