Bright apparel sends message

If you see neighbors and friends wearing brightly colored socks, T-shirts or other pieces of clothing on Thursday, know that it is for an important cause. March 21 is World Down Syndrome Day.

According to the web site dedicated to the effort: “On this day, people with Down syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world organize and participate in activities and events to raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome.”

On a local level, The Resource Center has been a tremendous advocate for assisting those special-needs individuals. Not only does the agency assist these community members in finding a place to live, it also provides a place of employment. It is an amazing gift, which brings a sense of ownership and accomplishment.

So don’t forget to add some brightness to your outfit on Thursday and send a message that you care.
