authority Don’t ignore picnic request
At least one person is willing to step up for the Dunkirk Housing Authority residents. During a meeting earlier this month, the topic of a canceled picnic did not go away.
One resident pleaded with the board of directors to make the event happen. “We were promised a picnic for the (July 4) holiday and we never got it,” said Anna Houser, resident of the Steger High Rise Apartments. “A lot of people are really upset about it.”
Why the picnic did not happen was twofold: first, funds for the event were missing after a former worker took the money before paying it back. Second, the Housing Authority was going through a transition of finding a new executive director.
With the issues, the annual gathering fell through.
Board member Richard Goodman indicated he would help with a picnic if one is planned now that Elizabeth Cardona has been named executive director. If one is to happen, it would be a sign of good will.
