Banner effort worth applause

It’s good to see the Central Connection program fully up and running this year.

Banners have been put up from one end of Central Avenue in Fredonia all the way to the end of Central Avenue at the Dunkirk Pier in the city. The banners attempt to tie the two ends of Central Avenue together using the Central Connection name and logo. They actually begin on Temple Street through Barker Common in downtown Fredonia, and tout that park.

Central Avenue will also play host to a “slow roll” bike ride June 19 with police escorts at busy intersections. Organizers want the slow rolls to be a monthly event.

We often look for municipal cooperation to happen on big projects — police consolidations, municipal mergers, shared positions and the like.

But it is through programs like the Central Connection program that those bigger projects take shape. Small projects are often the seed from which big fruits can grow.
