FORESTVILLE: Big contributions from small school

Big hearts are often seen at some of the county’s smaller schools. For those attending at Forestville, there is a tradition that continues in the annual Bald for Bucks campaign, which benefits Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.

Last week, the ceremony had 22 participants, with 11 going Bald for Bucks, while seven students, one mom, one teacher, and one middle school student participated in Locks of Love. Second-grader Emma Ruffo raised the most of any participant, pulling in $1,615 on her own, while fifth-grader Janelle Parisio raised $800. In all, $3,636 was raised.

It’s amazing that Forestville is such a tiny community, but when people are in need or when something like cancer touches them, they rally and come together,” said Jennifer Dunn, elementary school teacher. “I think it’s more powerful than a big school. Such a small place can create such big energy.”

Besides that, the love — and donations — are just plain impressive.
