Festival Of Grapes Finding others to ‘step forward’
Hanover town Supervisor Todd Johnson recently put in his two cents about the difficulty finding dedicated individuals who want to participate to make things happen in the community. His comments came while fellow Town Board members were discussing the fact the Festival of Grapes would have to go without rides this year last week.
“It looks like it’s going to be a great event for the third weekend of September. … All of the individuals who are involved, hats off to them,” he said. “It takes a lot of work. A lot of people don’t realize that. … Step forward if you want to make things better. … Volunteers are very hard to find nowadays.”
Exactly.
By the way, those who attend these events — instead of offering thanks — will often point out what they thought was wrong or should have been better. That’s not the best way to show gratitude.
Like so many events, the Festival of Grapes lost momentum due to COVID-19. Sometimes when events drop off the calendar, those vendors who have participated in the past move on to new events.
Johnson is correct in noting the festival will be a “great event.” It could be better if more people stepped up in the organization and planning.
