Marauder Trotter

Pre-Registration Deadline Today

The Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 will host the Marauder Trotter 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 4, on the DHS campus.

The community event will start at 9 a.m. with a kids’ run for ages 10 years and younger beginning at 9:45 a.m. The cost is $20 for each adult, $16 student rate, $10 kids’ run with t-shirt and $5 kids’ run without a t-shirt.

The pre-registration deadline is today to guarantee a complimentary race t-shirt. The day of registration cost is $25 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Paper registrations can also be downloaded from that site, or from the Facebook page at Marauder Trotter 5K Run & Walk and dropped off with payment to DHS Class of 1989 at Dr. Jennifer Ellman’s dentist office on Eagle Street.

The race, under the direction of classmates D.J. Wilson, race director, and Scott Mekus, event manager, will be a cross-country format, with the course consisting of pavement, grassy areas, and a portion of the track. Timing will be provided by Big White Trailer.

The open-to-public fundraiser will also include a costume contest, awards ceremony, basket auction with over 25 items, entertainment by DJ Joe Gould, bounce house, snacks and refreshments and an appearance from McDonald’s Hamburglar and DHS Marauder mascot.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 Memorial Scholarship in honor of their deceased classmates – Paula Kuschel, Jennifer Styborski, Jody Wdowiasz, Mike Koch, Robert Pierce, James Kulpa, Susan Butts, Elizabeth Barnes, Tony Quiles, Susan Gorka (Stoyle), Scott Roesler, Todd Iskra and Paul Szach. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the top three outfits displaying their hometown pride.

Memorial Golf Tournament

Plans for the 2015 Gary Trip Memorial Golf Tournament are progressing. The tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 12, at Hillview Golf Course and Vineyards Golf Course. Registration fee is $60 per golfer and will include food on the course and dinner at the Kosciuszko Club.

Registration will be held at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start to follow at 10. Dinner and awards will be held at 4 p.m. Deadline to signup foursomes is Friday, Aug. 28. To register, contact Katie or Pat at 366-1044.

Proceeds from previous tournaments have been used to establish an annual Gary Tripp Colorectal Cancer Research Fund at Roswell Park, an annual GTMGT Dunkirk High School scholarship and an annual donation to the GTMGT SUNY Fredonia scholarship.

Alumni Golf Tournament

The Sixth Annual Dunkirk High School/Cardinal Mindszenty High School/Fredonia High School Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7 at Shorewood Country Club.

Sign in is set for 7:45 a.m. in the “grove” next to the pro shop with an 8:30 a.m. group photo.

The shotgun start, scramble format kicks off at 9 a.m. The tournament will consist of men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed teams.

Cost for the tournament is $80 and includes golf, cart, box lunch, beverages, dinner buffet and dessert. Non-golfer dinner is available for $25. Trophy and door prizes follow dinner.

The Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp will take place today through July 2 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasium. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is open to anyone entering grades 3-12.

The camp is $95 per camper. For anyone with a group of five or more who sends in their application together, can deduct $10. Campers can register at the door on Monday at 8:45 a.m.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 a.m. Camp will start promptly at 9 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The Jamestown Babe Ruth World Series Board of Directors has announced that the general public will be able to come down to Diethrick Park the week of Aug. 15-22 and watch the Babe Ruth World Series for free.

Fredonia Nathan George vs. Dunkirk Local 912 – Fredonia’s team excelled offensively with Katie Czehanski, Jordan Lucas and Ella Cully going 4 for 4 at the plate. Defensively they were led by Breanne Binkiwitz and Callie Dragget.

Dunkirk showed off offensively with Ashely Foringer going 4 for 4. Marencia Bohn and Paige Perry had two hits each. Defensively they were led by Emma Ahlstrom and Isabella Kurek.

Stericycle A’s 3, Lil Magill’s Giants 0 – Mike Korzeniewski was the winning pitcher, striking out nine and allowing two hits. Jim Quinn and Shane Nusom each had two hits to lead the offense.

Jason Tomkiewicz took the loss for the Giants.

Stericycle A’s 11, Lil Magill’s Giants 9 – The Giants Scored their nine runs in the first inning without recording an out. Joe Jagoda came on in relief and allowed four hits the rest of the way while striking out 14 for the win.

Randy Stuart and Nick Luther had three hits each for the A’s while Eric Vara and Dan Williamson each had two hits in the win.

Derek Decilio was the losing pitcher for the Giants.

Pro Bats Yankees 4, Nationals 3 – The Pro Bats Yankees defeated the Nationals 4-3 as AJ Burnside stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie.

Matt Eaker pitched an outstanding game, allowing one hit with 14 strikeouts and two walks to earn the win. Eaker also had two hits at the plate to help his own cause.

Bender had the lone hit for the Nationals.

The league held its second Major of the season, the “U.S. Open” at Buffalo Tournament Club in Lancaster. Tim Sirigusa of Houston, Texas, formerly of Dunkirk, won his first career major by posting the low round of 78. In a tie for second with 81 were Robert Calph, Wayne Ormsby and Ed Tofil. Sirigusa had the low front nine of 39 while Al Etzel and Ormsby matched Sirigusa’s low back nine of 39. In the B Flight, Tim Walawender won a five-way tiebreaker over Gary Richardson, Tom Destro, John Bongiovani and John Waterman. The C Flight winner was Ron Szach. Winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Len Leszkowicz.

The Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities.

This year’s inductees being honored are: Coach David Polechetti, Coach John Bongiovanni, Tina Sevola (Class of 1980), JoAnn Giambrone (Class of 1980), Mark Edgerton (Class of 1974) and the 1952-53 boys basketball team.

The Fredonia Central School Athletic Wall of Fame recognizes former athletes and others who have made positive contributions to the athletic programs at Fredonia.

The shotgun start, scramble format kicks off at 9 a.m. The tournament will consist of men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed teams.

The Fredonia Central School Girls Basketball Camp will take place June 29-July 2 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasium. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is open to anyone entering grades 3-12.

The camp is $95 per camper and anyone who pays before June 1 pays just $80. For anyone with a group of five or more who sends in their application together, can deduct $10.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 a.m. Camp will start promptly at 9 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Second annual United Way of Northern Chautauqua County Golf Classic

Sign up today for the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County’s second annual Golf Classic. The 18-hole, four-man scramble style tournament will be held on June 29 at the Tri-County Country Club, 540 Route 39, Forestville.

The registration fee includes tee gift, cart, golf, lunch and dinner for $100 per golfer. The event also features a putting contest for Proshop credit and other on-course contests for closest to the pin and longest drive as well as a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

The Fredonia Central School District will hold its Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, at The White Inn in Fredonia, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities.

This year’s inductees being honored are: Coach David Polechetti, Coach John Bongiovanni, Tina Sevola (Class of 1980), JoAnn Giambrone (Class of 1980), Mark Edgerton (Class of 1974) and the 1952-53 boys basketball team.

The Fredonia Central School Athletic Wall of Fame recognizes former athletes and others who have made positive contributions to the athletic programs at Fredonia.

There will be a buffet style dinner.

The Sixth Annual Dunkirk High School/Cardinal Mindszenty High School/Fredonia High School Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7 at Shorewood Country Club.

Sign in is set for 7:45 a.m. in the “grove” next to the pro shop with an 8:30 a.m. group photo.

The shotgun start, scramble format kicks off at 9 a.m. The tournament will consist of men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed teams.

The camp is $95 per camper and anyone who pays before June 1 pays just $80. For anyone with a group of five or more who sends in their application together, can deduct $10.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 a.m. Camp will start promptly at 9 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Gym Rats Basketball Camp

The Fredonia boys basketball program will be hosting its 3rd Annual Gym Rats Basketball Camp this July at the Wheelock Primary School gym. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-9 and will be held the week of July 13-17.

The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, daily.

Campers will participate in lead-up games, relay races and a lot of passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting.

All campers get a free T-shirt and daily snack.

The first 50 campers registered will receive a complementary youth sized basketball. The cost is $65 – $100 for two family members.

The 20th Annual Silver Creek Kiwanis Club golf tournament will take place Friday, June 26 at Tri-County Country Club.

The cost of the tournament is $95 and includes golf, cart, tee prize, breakfast, lunch, food after golf and prizes

For Fredonia PBA, Albert Baxter had a strong performance as pitcher, throwing for his first strike out, while also adding a single and scoring once on offense. Allie Cook hit two singles and scored a run for her team while Joshua Thurber scored once, and had a solid performance pitching. Jacob Sullivan was the Defensive Standout with a sound execution at first base.

For Fredonia PBA, Calvin Frazier scored three times and anchored his team on offense hitting a double and a single. Derek Paradis recorded three RBIs off three singles and scored once. Paradis also had a strong performance at second base. Cole Wisniewski was the defensive MVP, making a great catch in the field and for his strong performance at third base.

For Mary’s Deli, Jude Murphy and Kyle Smith reached base safely, each hitting two singles and Matthew Cowan added a double and picked up another RBI for the season. The 7th Annual Fredonia Central School Boys basketball camp will be held July 6-9 at the Fredonia High School and Middle School gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost for the camp is $95 at the door, or $80 if paid by June 26. The camp is open to boys entering grades 3-12. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt if they pre-paid.

Each athlete is expected to arrive between 9-9:30 a.m. The camp will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch.

Gym Rats Basketball Camp

The Fredonia boys basketball program will be hosting its 3rd Annual Gym Rats Basketball Camp this July at the Wheelock Primary School gym. The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-9 and will be held the week of July 13-17.

The camp runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon, daily.

Campers will participate in lead-up games, relay races and a lot of passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting.

All campers get a free T-shirt and daily snack.

The first 50 campers registered will receive a complementary youth sized basketball. The cost is $65 – $100 for two family members.

A time-restricted game ended in a tie for Medicor and Youth Council. Brody Cave’s two-RBI single in the top of the sixth knotted the affair.

Medicor was led at the plate by Mike Barnes with a double and Matt Cash with a single.

The Fredonia Central School District will hold its Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, at The White Inn in Fredonia, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities.

This year’s inductees being honored are: Coach David Polechetti, Coach John Bongiovanni, Tina Sevola (Class of 1980), JoAnn Giambrone (Class of 1980), Mark Edgerton (Class of 1974) and the 1952-53 boys basketball team.

The Fredonia Central School Athletic Wall of Fame recognizes former athletes and others who have made positive contributions to the athletic programs at Fredonia.

The Sixth Annual Dunkirk High School/Cardinal Mindszenty High School/Fredonia High School Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7 at Shorewood Country Club.

Sign in is set for 7:45 a.m. in the “grove” next to the pro shop with an 8:30 a.m. group photo.

The shot-gun start, scramble format kicks off at 9 a.m. The tournament will consist of men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed teams.

Cost for the tournament is $80 and includes golf, cart, box lunch, beverages, dinner buffet and dessert. Non-golfer dinner is available for $25. Trophy and door prizes follow dinner.

The camp is $95 per camper and anyone who pays before June 1 pays just $80. For anyone with a group of five or more who sends in their application together, can deduct $10.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 a.m. Camp will start promptly at 9 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Fredonia Central School Hall of Fame

The Fredonia Central School District will hold its Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, June 27, at The White Inn in Fredonia, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Athletic Hall of Fame honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life’s work and/or service to their communities.

This year’s inductees being honored are: Coach David Polechetti, Coach John Bongiovanni, Tina Sevola (Class of 1980), JoAnn Giambrone (Class of 1980), Mark Edgerton (Class of 1974) and the 1952-53 boys basketball team.

The Fredonia Central School Athletic Wall of Fame recognizes former athletes and others who have made positive contributions to the athletic programs at Fredonia.

There will be a buffet style dinner.

Al Etzel earned his league-best fourth tour victory of the season by posting the low round of 84 at North Hills Golf Course in Corry, Pennsylvania. The victory was also the 35th of Etzel’s career, fifth most on the all-time list. Etzel led the front nine with 38 while Tom Destro and Joe Michalski each shot the low back nine score of 41. Dave Criscione was the B Flight winner and Frank Benamati was the C Flight winner on a tiebreaker with Jack Griswold. Winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Lee Titus.

NRG & United Way Charity Golf Classic.

NRG and the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County present the Second Annual Charity Golf Classic which will be played Monday, June 29 at Tri-County Country Club.

A strong pitching performance from Jason Tomkiewicz led the Lil Magill’s Giants past The Jock Shop Marlins, 7-2. Tomkiewicz went the distance with three strikeouts, two walks and scattering three hits. Derek Deceilio led the Giants on offense going 1 for 3 with a double and scoring twice.

Doug Clark took the loss giving up two hits, with eight strikeouts, three walks and four hit batters.

The Sixth Annual Dunkirk High School/Cardinal Mindszenty High School/Fredonia High School Alumni Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7 at Shorewood Country Club.

Sign in is set for 7:45 a.m. in the “grove” next to the pro shop with an 8:30 a.m. group photo.

The shot-gun start, scramble format kicks off at 9 a.m. The tournament will consist of men’s and women’s teams as well as mixed teams.

Cost for the tournament is $80 and includes golf, cart, box lunch, beverages, dinner buffet and dessert. Non-golfer dinner is available for $25. Trophy and door prizes follow dinner.

The camp is $95 per camper and anyone who pays before June 1 pays just $80. For anyone with a group of five or more who sends in their application together, can deduct $10.

Each player is expected to arrive between 8:30 and 8:55 a.m. Camp will start promptly at 9 a.m. Athletes are expected to bring their own lunch. There will be cold pop, water and Gatorade for sale at lunch time and at the end of the day. All athletes should have their ride pick them up at 3:30 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
