Local team set for 11 Day Power Play
This July, the 11 Day Power Play Community Shift will see more than 1,700 pairs of skates hit the ice to help in the fight against cancer. The purpose of the event is to raise much needed funds for local cancer causes, including cancer research and wellness programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, programs that improve the life for children, adults, and families affected by cancer through Camp Good Days, and granting wishes and experiences to children with life-threatening illnesses, including cancer, by Make-A-Wish Western New York.
The 11-day around-the-clock game consists of continuous, four-hour shifts at the HarborCenter in Buffalo. During each shift, two teams will endure the physical challenges associated with playing four continuous hours of hockey. While these ailments may prove difficult, they will be a walk in the park compared with what some people endure in their daily battle against cancer.
The continuous hockey game runs from July 5-15. A team with players from the Dunkirk-Fredonia area, the Ice Wolves, will be playing a four hour shift on Sunday, July 8 from 2-6 a.m.
For more event information please contact: Steven Skrzypek, team captain, at 785-2997, Chelsi Mikowski at 467-0301 or Lauren Moore at (831) 241-8322.
Donations can be made to the team’s website: bit.ly/11daypowerplayicewolves.
