Fredonia to hold basketball clinic on Nov. 29

There will be a “Black Friday” Basketball Clinic for any interested girls and boys in first through eighth grade on Friday, Nov. 29, from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Fredonia Middle School Gym. It will be a fun-filled day with games and prizes. All participants will receive a complementary season pass for all the 2019-2020 Fredonia Boys & Girls JV and varsity home basketball games.

YMCA youth basketball registration ends Nov. 22

The registration deadline for the YMCA Youth Basketball League for boys and girls in grades 1-8 is Nov. 22. The league focuses on fun, teamwork and individual player growth. The program emphasizes the child first and the sport second through fair play, sportsmanship and equal participation. The ‘Y’ welcomes all levels of players, from beginner to more advanced. Players from outside schools must attend the same school. All Jamestown players must attend a skills evaluation held on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Divisions will be divided as follows: 1st & 2nd Grade Co-ed, 3rd- 5th Grade Girls, 6th- 8th Grade Girls, 3rd & 4th Grade Boys, 5th & 6th Grade Boys, 7th & 8th Grade Boys. Players will also have the opportunity to attend a Cleveland Cavs game. Call the Jamestown YMCA for more information or email basketball@jamestownymca.org.

Chautauqua Hurricane tryouts set for Nov. 23

The Chautauqua Hurricane, now playing in a new league, will play their season from January to March. Tryouts for the team will be held on Nov. 23 at the Salvation Army from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The team’s final roster will be announced at a later date.

Dunkirk Elks Hoop Shoot scheduled for Nov. 23

The annual Hoop Shoot Contest sponsored by the Dunkirk Elks 922 is being held on Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Dunkirk High School auxiliary gymnasium. The hoop shoot will begin promptly at 9 a.m. Access to the auxiliary gym is by the pool entrance in the back of the school.

The hoop shoot is a free contest open to girls and boys in the county. Participants must be ages 8 – 13 years old by April 1, 2020. A 7-year-old who will be 8 years old by April 1, 2020 can participate in this contest. However, a 13-year-old who will be 14 years old by April 1, 2020 is too old to participate. Birth certificates for all participants must be brought to the hoop shoot.

Contestants will be placed into six divisions: boys 8-9, girls 8-9, boys 10-11, girls 10-11, boys 12-13 and girls 12-13. Each division will have a winner provided there are participants for every division.

All contestants must wear clean, dry gym shoes. Appropriate clothing to wear is comfortable, loose fitting shirt and pants, such as a T-shirt and sweatpants or gym shorts.

Spectators are welcome to watch and will need to sit on the side of the gym. Phones must be silenced, talking is not permitted or any other activity which may cause distractions for the contestants. No one is permitted on the gym floor during the hoop shoot.
