CASAC Announces

A Hole for Dough

This golf season will mark the second year of Chautauqua Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Council’s, CASAC, A Hole for Dough fundraiser.

A Hole for Dough is an opportunity for golfers to donate to CASAC and have the chance to get some money back if they make a hole-in-one while golfing in a league.

If a golfer gets a hole-in-one, CASAC will distribute 30 percent of the donations collected among golfers who donate $10 by the third week of their respective league start date.

Leagues in Western New York and northeastern Pennsylvania can participate. The more golfers who participate, the larger the payout will be. Any number of league golfers can join in the fun. Not all league members need to participate. This fundraiser asks for nothing from the participating golf courses, only a tax deductible donation from interested golfers.

CASAC is a United Way supported agency. For more information, contact Kathy J. Stornes at kstornes@casacweb.org or at CASAC (716)664-3608.

2015 Lucy Town Half Marathon

and 5k Registration Now Open

Registration for the 2015 Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5k opened to the public on Monday, April 6. The annual race weekend will take place this year on Oct. 10 and Oct. 11, in Lucille Ball’s hometown of Jamestown.

The Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5k race weekend has attracted participants from 31 states annually since its creation in 2013, including both elite runners and Lucy fans alike. During the 2014 race weekend, Jamestown welcomed comedian Bob Newhart and paid tribute to the iconic I Love Lucy grape stomping scene, as 1,232 people set a new world record for most people treading grapes. Martin Short headlined an evening of comedy during the 2013 inaugural year.

The Lucy Town 5k and Kids 2k will take place on Oct. 10, and the third annual Lucy Town Half Marathon will take place on Oct. 11.

For race registration information, visit www.lucyrace.com.

The USATF certified half-marathon course begins and ends in downtown Jamestown, and runs through the neighboring towns of Lakewood and Celoron. The course travels near the childhood home of Lucille Ball, the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Museum, the world’s largest I Love Lucy mural, created by artists Gary Peters Jr. and Gary Peters Sr., and the Lucille Ball Memorial Park.

Univera Healthcare is the presenting sponsor for the weekend’s events.

Lucy Town organizers are still seeking groups, or individuals, to serve as event volunteers. No running experience is necessary, as there are a wide variety of roles needed for the weekend event. Positions may be available for a wide array of skills and interest, ranging from registering athletes and distributing information, to providing course-side refreshments at water and food stations. For information on becoming a volunteer, visit www.lucyrace.com.
