Fredonia swim team wins debut

ALLEGANY — Fredonia’s swim team defeated Allegany-Limestone 129-50 Tuesday in the first meet of the season for both teams.

Senior Riley Drummond broke two Allegany-Limestone pool records, and qualified for the state swim-offs in Ithaca in November in doing so. She recorded a 200 individual medley time of 2:11.04 and grabbed the 100 backstroke victory in 57.79 seconds. Her wins on two relay teams made her a quadruple winner.

Joining Drummond in winning four times for Fredonia was Mackenzie Quinn, who won the 50 free and 100 free and swam on two victorious relays.

The Fredonia team also features swimmers from the Brocton, Dunkirk, Silver Creek and Forestville high schools. A Silver Creek swimmer, McKayla Polowy, was a triple winner for the group, winning the 500 freestyle and participating on two winning relay teams. Another triple winner was Amelia Harper, in her first varsity meet ever. She won the 200 freestyle, the 100 fly and swam on a relay winner.

Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer won the diving event for Fredonia.

Southwestern is Fredonia’s next opponent in the pool, traveling to Fredonia High School Thursday for a meet.
