Boys: Fredonia’s Rey No. 3 in 1600, Velez of DHS No. 4 in 100

Fredonia’s Diego Rey runs in an event last season. Rey is seeded third in the 1,600 meters at the Section VI Track & Field Championships, which get underway today.

Local boys have secured three No. 1 seeds in Division 2 for the Section VI Track & Field Championships, which get underway today at Niagara Falls High School.

Maple Grove senior Michael Peppy holds the top time this spring in the 1,600 meters at 4:25.54 while Clymer/Sherman/Panama sophomore Cameron Barmore is No. 1 in the high jump (6-4) and Clymer/Sherman/Panama freshman John Swabik is the top seed in the pentathlon with 2,866 points.

Southwestern sophomore Eddie Scroxton is just behind Peppy in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:29.18, which is good for second, while Fredonia junior Diego Rey is third (4:30.93) Randolph sophomore Ronan McDonald is eighth (4:38.01), Fredonia freshman Jack Carlson is ninth (4:38.16), Gowanda senior Nate Brawdy is 12th (4:39.31) and Clymer/Sherman/Panama senior Logan Holthouse is 16th (4:42.70).

Peppy is the No. 2 seed in the 3,200 meters (9:33.08), followed by Southwestern sophomore Dagon Bryant in fourth (10:08.54), Dunkirk junior Anthony Ruiz in sixth (10:09.37), Fredonia senior Josh Johnson in 10th (10:17.59) and Gowanda freshman Sam Chmielewski in 13th (10:18.41).

Randolph senior Matthew Evans is seeded No. 2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:01.34) followed by Bryant in ninth (10:26.37), Johnson in 11th (10:30.72) and Ruiz in 12th (10:31.27).

Maple Grove junior Carson Crist follows Swabik with a No. 4 seed in the pentathlon (2,590). Next is Salamanca sophomore Kohl Ambuske in fifth (2,445), Clymer/Sherman/Panama freshman Jordan Svetz in ninth (2,275) and Franklinville/Ellicottville/West Valley senior Elliot Bowen in 11th (2,262).

Dunkirk senior Issiah Velez is seeded No. 4 in the 100 meters (11.24) followed by Chautauqua Lake senior Josh Walsh in ninth (11.34), Fredonia junior Joell Colon in 14th (11.52) and Maple Grove senior Nash Nelson in 15th (11.54).

Frewsburg senior Drew Pownall is seeded No. 4 in the 400 meters (51.14) followed by Dunkirk senior Nathan Ganey in 11th (52.61) and Maple Grove sophomore Riley Auer in 12th (52.70).

Scroxton is the No. 6 seed in the 800 meters (2:01.35) followed by Rey in seventh (2:01.46), Maple Grove junior Frank Colburn in 14th (2:04.84) and McDonald in 16th (2:05.18).

Southwestern sophomore Cooper Pannes is No. 6 in the shot put (44-7) while Fredonia senior Jake Guerra is ninth (43-3), Randolph junior Skyler Wright is 12th (42-6.25) and Gowanda senior Ture Hassler is 13th (42-5).

Pannes’ junior Trojans teammate Brice Lowe is No. 6 in the discus (136-1) followed by Maple Grove senior Nick Fabrizio in 10th (130-5), Pannes in 11th (125-0), Falconer/Cassadaga Valley senior Damian Southard in 15th (121-11) and Wright in 16th (119-10).

Maple Grove senior Truman Purslow is seeded No. 7 in the high jump (6-0) while Velez is No. 8 in the long jump (20-9) and Dunkirk junior Devin Eddy is 12th in the long jump (20-3).

In the pole vault, Randolph senior Wyatt Sluga is No. 7 (12-6), Southwestern junior Chase Stevenson is No. 11 (12-3), Fredonia sophomore Hessen Bahgat is No. 13 (12-0) and Chautauqua Lake senior Joshua Janicki is No. 15 (11-6).

Southwestern senior Derek Miller is No. 8 in the triple jump (41-8.5) while junior teammate Alex Card is No. 13 (41-3) and Purslow is No. 15 (40-9.25).

In the 400-meter hurdles, Frewsburg sophomore Zach Heberlein is No. 8 (59.66), Falconer/Cassadaga Valley freshman Austin Johns is No. 9 (59.73), Southwestern freshman Jaden Kinnear is No. 11 (1:00.06), Fredonia sophomore Rain Budzinski is No. 12 (1:00.15), Maple Grove sophomore Darius Jones is No. 13 (1:00.27) and Clymer/Sherman/Panama senior Fin McDonald is No. 15 (1:00.39).

Colon is ninth in the 200 meters (23.43) and Nelson is 12th (23.56).

Gowanda junior Austin Jankowski is No. 10 in the 110-meter hurdles while Bowen is 13th (16.44), Chautauqua Lake senior Dustin McCaslin is No. 13 (16.44) and Jones is 15th (16.47).

In the 400-meter relay, Dunkirk is No. 7 (44.54), Fredonia is No. 10 (45.13) and Chautauqua Lake is No. 12 45.28).

Frewsburg is fourth in the 1,600-meter relay (3:33.31) while Maple Grove is seventh (3:34.31), Randolph is eighth (3:34.63), Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is ninth (3:35.68) and Southwestern is 10th (3:36.02).

In the 3,200-meter relay, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley is No. 1 (8:10.91), Southwestern is No. 4 (8:26.53), Maple Grove is seventh (8:31.35), Clymer/Sherman/Panama is ninth (8:39.57), Fredonia is No. 12 (8:43.34) and Dunkirk is No. 16 (8:48).
