Gowanda comes back to win, 7-5, over Frewsburg

OBSERVER Staff Report

FREWSBURG — Gowanda (1-0) traveled to Frewsburg (1-2) and beat both the Bears and the wind, 7-5, in a Section VI nonleague baseball game at Frewsburg High School. After giving up the lead early in the bottom of the seventh inning the Panthers battled back in the seventh and scored five runs to put them over Frewsburg.

Tyee Nagel was on the hill for Gowanda and only gave up one hit through five innings of work, but gave up two runs. Cole Herman earned the win for the Panthers, giving up three hits and runs in just one inning pitched. Tanner Olson earned the save — Olson came in and attacked the strike zone in the seventh, throwing 13 pitches and 11 for strikes, while striking out one in one inning pitched.

“It was a sloppy game due to weather,” said Gowanda head coach Tim Smith. “It was a fast game on both sides, both teams played great defense.”

The Panthers gave up the lead in the sixth inning, but managed to battle back in the top of the seventh. Both Tanner Olson and Gavin Phillips knocked in a RBI single, and three other runners managed to score from passed balls.

“Proud of the way that we battled,” said Coach Smith. “A lot of times if a team takes the lead and gives it up, they kind of give up. Im proud of our guys for battling in the seventh.”

Gowanda will look to keep their seventh inning magic rolling into today as they host JFK.
