OLEAN — Emily Brown is no stranger to the biggest stages in the running community. This weekend was no different, as Brown took first place in the 1,500m in a time of 4:50.03 — more than 14 seconds ahead of the second place finisher — at the CCAA league track and field championship meet in Olean this weekend. Additionally, Brown was second in the 800m in a personal best time of 2:19.10.

Also for the Fredonia girls, Anna Buchanan was sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 31-feet-6 3/4-inches. Emily Timmerman of the Lady ‘Billies was 11th in the high jump with a personal best of 4-feet-4-inches and was 13th in the 100m hurdles in a personal best time of 19.86. Fredonia’s Rhayna Myers was 15th in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:22.96.

For the Fredonia boys, the highlight was Oliver Madariaga, who took second place in the 400m dash in 51.51, finishing only behind Rayven Sample of Cassadaga Valley/Falconer, in 51.27. It was a season-best for Madariaga, which Fredonia coach Bob Ball noted as one of the best times in the last decade for the Hillbillies.

On Monday, the Hillbillies will find out who will qualify for the Section VI championship meet at Williamsville South High School, next weekend.
