No. 8 Lady Cougars claim another upset with 6-2 victory

ELLICOTTVILLE — The Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars knock off No. 5 seed Ellicottville, 6-2, in a Section VI Class C2 semifinal softball game, on Tuesday.

Brittyn LeBaron earned the win in the circle for Cassadaga Valley, after pitching seven innings, allowing just two runs, on four hits, one walk and struck out eight.

LeBaron helped her cause offensively with a solo home run and went 2-for-3 on the day. Hannah Edwards also went yard, getting a two-run home run.

Courtney Sexton was in the circle for Ellicottville and pitched just six innings after being injured in the seventh when trying to slide home. Sexton gave up five runs, on four hits, three walks and struck out eight. Evelyn Nuzzo finished the game and surrendered just one more hit to the Lady Cougars. Prior to being injured Sexton hit a double.

The Lady Cougars will look to stay hot this Thursday and attempt to upset No. 2 seed Maple Grove for the Class C2 Championship, at St. Bonaventure University at 6 p.m.
