OLEAN — The Dunkirk Marauders came out on top of a defensive showdown in Olean on Friday night, in a Class B cross-over season-opening playoff game, by a score of 7-6 over the Olean Huskies.

Dunkirk (1-0) trailed 6-0 in the fourth quarter, but a 4-yard touchdown run by Christian Ortiz gave the Marauders the lead for good.

Dunkirk came into the game with questions swirling around the running back position, with the four leading rushers from the Marauders in 2018 all no longer a part of the Dunkirk team. Friday night, when it mattered most, the Marauders got just enough production to come out on top against a tough Class B team in a challenging environment on the road.

Dunkirk plays Maritime Charter next week, on Friday at 7:30 p.m., in the team’s home opener.
