Fredonia sinks both Gowanda, Salamanca in the pool

The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies (3-0) swim team took down both Gowanda and Salamanca in a dual swim meet at Fredonia High School, on Thursday night. Fredonia beat Gowanda 86-15, and topped Salamanca 83.5-17.5 for two Section VI girls swimming victories.

Fredonia’s win featured two quadruple winners, both Tori Spacc and Jenna Sherlock. Spacc won the 200 meter medley relay, 200 IM, 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle relay. Sherlock earned her wins in the 200 medley relay, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

The twins Julia and Jane Fortna of Fredonia were triple winners. Julia won the 200 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Jane Fortna 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Amelia Harper was a double winner for Fredonia, winning the 500 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay.

Abby Roth, Greta Frerichs and Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer won events for the Lady ‘Billies. Pucc-Schaefer, a seventh grader, won the diving competition and stays undefeated in competitions thus far.

“The girls are training, working hard,” said Fredonia head coach Joanne Lotter. “Times are improving. We’re off to a great start.”

Fredonia is back in the pool on Tuesday when they host Panama at 5 p.m.
