Westfield/Brocton beats North Collins, 2-0 in OT

OBSERVER Staff Report

NORTH COLLINS — The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines continue their incredible pace to start the season, beating the North Collins Eagles, 2-0, in an overtime affair in North Collins on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolverines faced a different challenge today, in the form of a fast turf field that North Collins features, and it’s something Lady Wolverines coach Neil Huber said needed some adjustments.

“That turf makes a huge difference. It took us a little bit to get going. North Collins is a good team. They’re well coached and they have a nice balance. We had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the turf, but we made some changes,” Huber said.

Both goaltenders played strong for all 100 minutes of game action, with Angel Busch of Westfield/Brocton ending the game with 22 saves, while North Collins’ Myah Gabel made 15 saves on the 17 shots she faced.

With a scoreless game in regulation, the Lady Wolverines’ Sheala Barresi netted both the go ahead goal in the 87th minute with an assist from Heather Johnston, and the insurance marker two minutes later from Katie Bodenmiller.

“Their keeper made some outstanding saves, but we played some great team defense. They’ve been lights out. Angel is making the saves but the defense is giving her the time and space,” Huber said.

Westfield/Brocton (6-0) is next home against Chautauqua Lake on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

“They’re always good. They beat Silver Creek last week, some of the things we’ve been talking about we’ll hopefully be able to do. They’re very talented, it should be a good tilt,” Huber said.
