NCCS donations to Nicaragua youth baseball ‘a huge success’

The NCCS donation drive to collect baseball equipment for needy youth baseball players in Nicaragua was a huge success. NCCS has sent six boxes of equipment weighing close to 300 pounds to date. The boxes contained 48 bats, 19 helmets, 36 gloves, eleven pair of spikes, four sets of catcher’s gear, five large equipment bags and nine personal equipment bags, 37 pairs of baseball pants, 24 uniform jerseys, 36 hats, 24 belts, and 18 pairs of baseball socks.

“The generosity of the people in this area is nothing short of amazing,” said Charlie LaDuca, who helped organize the donation drive. “A big thank you to NCCS who hosted a drop off site as well as making many donations. The Dunkirk and Fredonia Little League organizations, as well as the Chautauqua Bombers and Chautauqua Men’s Senior League, stepped up big. There are too many individual donors to thank, but they are numerous and much appreciated.”

The equipment will be delivered as part of the coaching clinics taking place in several small villages in Nicaragua starting Jan. 16.
