The Pro-Bats Yankees were the recipients of some good fortune last weekend en route to a sweep of the Stuart Tool & Die Athletics.

In the first game, the A’s (3-3) committed three seventh-inning errors that allowed the Yankees (6-1) to score five times and escape with an 8-6 victory.

Joe Polichetti and Justyn Vara each had a pair of hits with Polichetti driving in a run. Robert Calph had an RBI double and Matt Pantano also drove in a run. Matt Eaker picked up the win on the mound while Matt Cole earned the save with the potential tying run at the plate.

Gib Stuart had a home run, a double and three RBIs while Jim Quinn and Trevor Spicer each had two hits for the A’s. Bob Bankoski also had a key single. Zach Nykula took the loss, allowing there earned runs while striking out six in a complete game.

In the second game, the Yankees scored five runs in extra innings, benefitting from four eighth-inning walks, to hold on for a 6-3 win.

Polichetti had three hits and scored twice while Rich Hofer added two singles for the A’s. Vara picked up the win, pitching into the eighth inning and striking out 11 while allowing three earned runs. Cole picked up the save.

Austin Spicer did not allow an earned run in seven innings of work on the mound for the A’s. Byron Keyser took the loss. Spicer also had two hits at the plate.
