Rice makes big impact in return

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek/Forestville girls struggled out of the gate, but they finished just fine.

Abby Rice nearly had a quadruple double as she scored 21 points, dished out 10 assists and had eight rebounds and seven steals to lead the Black Knights to a 48-9 nonleague victory over Franklinville.

Silver Creek/Forestville trailed 6-2 after the first quarter — Rice didn’t start as she eases back into form after an injury — but then allowed only three points the rest of the way.

Malani Eldridge chipped in with 13 points and four rebounds for the winners; and Madison Valvo collected seven steals, helping Silver Creek/Forestville to improve to 2-2 on the season.

ADAMS STEPS UP

RANDOLPH — Behind Alyssa Adams’ career-high 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots, Randolph held off Southwestern, 43-40, in a nonleague basketball game on Saturday.

Kyra Pence added 10 points and four assists; Sydney Hvizdzak chipped in 10 points and six rebounds; and Payton Morrison added 9 points and four steals to help Randolph improve to 5-0.

Southwestern (1-1), which did an effective job with a triangle-and-two defense against Hvizdzak and Morrison, was led by Sofia Genareo with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Reece Beaver added 16 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists; and Allison Lundmark brought down nine boards.

DRAGONS DOWN FREDONIA

FREDONIA — Maple Grove jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 40-25 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West victory over Fredonia.

Madison Price led the Red Dragons (2-3) with 14 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks; Courtney Martin had 9 points and nine rebounds; Erin Mansfield dished out five assists; and Megan Fischer collected four steals.

Gabriel Matos led the Hillbillies with 9 points and eight rebounds.

HARPER, LUNDMARK SHINE

FALCONER — Behind double-doubles by Rachael Harper and Gracie Lundmark, unbeaten Falconer rolled to a 57-26 nonleague basketball victory over Cassadaga Valley.

Harper scored 11 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots, while Lundmark collected 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Kayla Jo Lynn added five assists, and Courtnee Peterson had 8 points and five steals for the Golden Falcons (5-0).

The Cougars (1-3) were led by Kaylee Pattyson who had 15 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Alyssa Hopkins pulled down five boards.
