Tofil, Stoughton tie for lead in Venango

VENANGO, Pa. — In Wednesday Travel League action, Wayne Stoughton and Ed Tofil tied for the low round of 77 at Venango Valley Golf Course.

Stoughton was the overall winner with a par on the No. 1 handicap hole. Joe Bifaro finished third with 86. Stoughton led the front nine with 38 while Tofil led the back nine with an even-par 35.

In the B Flight, Ken Kaus won on a tiebreaker with Mick Dunning Sr. In the C Flight, Dave Franklin won on a tiebreaker with Pat Weaver. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dennis Gawronski Sr.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Stoughton (Nos. 1, 4, 11), Bifaro (Nos. 3, 15), Mike Wolfe (No. 8), Tofil (Nos. 9, 14, 16), Dave Wallace (No. 13) and Bob Thompson (No. 18); B Flight — Don Kujawa (No. 1), Kaus (No. 6), Mike Willoughby (No. 9), Dunning (No. 14) and Tom Destro (No. 18); C Flight — Jim Ellman Sr. (Nos. 14, 16) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 17).

Closest to the pin were Stoughton (No. 11), Dunning (No. 13) and Ellman (No. 16).

Top point winners were Stoughton (44), Tofil and Ellman (40 apiece), and Wallace (24). Season points leaders: 1. Stoughton (106), 2. Tofil (77), 3. Pete Pinkoski (44), 4. Dunning and Ellman (40 apiece), 6. Wallace (35), 7. Bifaro (34), 8. Kujawa (31), 9. John Waterman (23), 10. Franklin (22).
