Tarp Skunks split doubleheader

NIAGARA FALLS — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks split a doubleheader Tuesday with the Niagara Power, winning 4-2 in the afternoon before losing 3-2 in the nightcap at Sal Maglie Stadium.

Jamestown won the opening game with a pair of runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

In the fourth, Luke Turner doubled and Danny Hosley singled before Mark Tucker’s two-run single made it 2-1 in favor of the Tarp Skunks.

They added on in the sixth as Mark Tucker, Luke Turner and Kolbe Aven all singled. Pinch-runner DiMaggio Cazares and Aven eventually scored in the inning.

Cade Swenson, Justin Guillano and Matt Henson combined for three strikeouts while walking four and allowing eight hits.

In the second game, Niagara scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning off Jamestown starter Kyle Borrello. Channy Ortiz walked and went to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Cole Gabrielson’s RBI triple. Nic Balsano drove in Gabrielson with a two-out infield single.

The Tarp Skunks answered with a two-run third inning when Cory Blackburn was hit by a pitch with two outs and scored on Kevin Koziol’s two-run home run.

But the Power regained the lead for good a half-inning later thanks to a hit and a pair of errors.

Jamestown will return home today for a 7 p.m. game against the Batavia Muckdogs at Diethrick Park.
