DeJesus’ bout ends in draw

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Dunkirk native Elon DeJesus probably deserved better in his match Saturday night against Rajon Chance.

Both undefeated boxers squared off in a bout that ended in a draw. Adding to the possible controversy was the referee taking a point away from DeJesus. One judge had Chance winning the fight while two others called it a draw.

The bout was featured on FOX Sports 1.

“Referee Jerry Cantu played a major role, calling for a point deduction from DeJesus’ scorecard in round four without a prior warning and also denying a knockout finish for DeJesus after hurting and subsequently flooring Chance in round five,” Boxing Scene reported online following the bout.

DeJesus competes in the bantamweight fighting class, as he comes in at 122 pounds. DeJesus thinks that his biggest strength in the ring comes from just that — his strength.

“I feel my strength is my power,” DeJesus told the OBSERVER earlier this month. “I fight at 122 pounds, but I’m very strong for my class. I think my footwork is pretty and I’m able to maneuver my weight in the ring in a way a lot of people can’t.”
